The ABC’s of Skin Care
And What About Me?…What is Best for My Skin?
Skin 2 Skin™ Care ABC’s of Skin Care – An Educational Look at the Products Available to the retailer, Spa, Medical Spa, Doctor and ultimately the consumer. Multi-Dimensional skin health solutions or MD based products.
The scenario of the cosmetic industry, HABA or Anti-Aging sectors:
First or was it first? …that anti-aging became the “buzz word”; it may have been Organic. Technically, I believe it started first with the cosmeceutical; efficacy based moisturizers to target skin ailments and correct. It then moved into Anti-aging, or shall we call it “AA” creams as by all known logic really what is “anti-aging?” Is there such a phenomenon as we age every day; the key is prevention and care at the root of good skin health. Then we, as an industry or for marketing purposes, launched into the “organic” trend which still persists; organic is defined as meeting 9 USDA criteria to be considered organic, irregardless of whatever else is in the cream, many of the ingredients can be toxic, fillers, or paraben based, which is now considered a “no no.” But, it is still “Organic!” I can hear the words as I write this…
In the past little while, and keeping with the trends (a fad being perceived as novel in some way) which came from the East to the West are the BB creams, CC creams, and DD creams. So we are all in the “know” here are the following definitions:
- BB creams are essentially skin brightening, primer, foundation, moisturizing, SPF, and anti-aging
- CC creams are “color control” and the next generation of the BB cream with the key differentiating factor being the color of your complexion or color correcting along with the other defined benefits of the BB cream
- DD creams are the “powerhouse” creams for dry, rough, and cracked skin, as well as body creams. They generally contain active ingredients such as BHA, Urea, Vitamin E, B3, and Aloe Vera. They also claim to moisturize, diminish Black spots, stretch marks, increase hydration, encourage skin regeneration, prevention, dryness and improve rough skin. I’d like to know where the Niacin is in all this to penetrate the thicker skin?
What is the next category the “EE cream?” We can call it Extravagant Elegance creams and by using this, it achieves all the benefits, and even promotes Youth so you can look exceptionally elegant while combating those nasty lines, wrinkles, scars from laser, dry skin, rough spots, sagging, and so forth!
Somewhere in all these labels popped up Cellular Therapy or Cellulo-therapie (en francais).
In all seriousness, who would not be confused? The real scenario, regardless of the label, is a strong foundation of fact, and protecting your skin, to encourage regeneration, acceptance by the skin, to renew, regenerate, replenish, correct, heal as well as repair, with evidence. The evidence of the data and results driven specifically for your skin; or a protocol of good health, including but not limited to skin health, and putting the health first in health and beauty. Beauty can be achieved through good skin health and appropriateness. Natural products, or those defined as minimally processed, without harmful ingredients should be the first choice. The human skin readily absorbs plant based minerals, nutrients and actives that can rejuvenate and replenish. Non toxic, or void of active toxins (or is it toxic actives?) and non active ingredients should also play a key role in your decision as we know there is dioxin in the water, acid rain, free radicals, and pollutants that attack our skin daily, so why contribute to the mix?

Is it Anti-Aging? Within the category yes, and it is more. The BB are in each product, AA is addressed, CC in SPF, and DD in Photo-Aging Repair and 24/7 Rejuvenation. We can break it down into the “labels”, but why bother; Skin 2 Skin Care’s Professinal Skin Care portfolio is Multi-Dimensional, and growing in scope.
