When I first started Skin 2 Skin™ ® I was at a large spa training the staff. Two estheticians were in the class and keep saying I can’t believe it my hands are not burning or red. I asked them what they meant and I was shocked what they told me. They have to use one of the top Spa Skin Care Lines at another spa ever day for the past 3 years and developed health issues, scarring on their hands and arms and when they used any products their hands would burn and turn red. They told me that they had been tested and to their surprise their bodies were full Formaldehyde and Synthetic Fragrance.
Companies clam that they use no formaldehydes in their products! Unknowing or they do know and prefer using a cheaper preservative at the expense of their clients health. Preservatives we are talking about releases small amounts of formaldehyde that the EPA classifies as a probable human carcinogen. The best thing you can do is to look at the labels and ask questions of the esthetician before they start applying the products. If they tell you its Honey or Shea Butter stop them they have no idea what the preservative is because Honey and Shea Butter are not preservatives in skin care products.
The following are preservatives you should avoid:
- Diazolidinyl Urea is a white powder (even though it is white it’s not pure) a preservative that prevents bacterial growth. It works by releasing small amounts of formaldehyde, a toxin and carcinogenic used to embalm bodies. In the US companies can use up to 0.5% but in Europe any product exceeding 0.05% labels must state “contains formaldehyde”.
- DMDM Hydantion or MDM Hydantion known as Formaldehyde. This preservative is use in a number of products including hand creams, lotions, and shampoos, cosmetics to prevent mold, mildew and bacterial spoilage. You can also find it in nail polish and hardeners, soap, and hair growing products. This product is band in Japan and Sweden.
- Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate also under the ingredient name IPBC it also contains Iodine. It is a formaldehyde releaser used as a preservative used in many of our skin care products and cosmetics. It is acutely toxic by inhalation and should not be used in products that can be aerosolized or inhaled. This ingredient is band in Europe
You will find that all of these ingredients are Band in Skin 2 Skin™ ® products along with Parabens, Petroleum, Mineral Oil, Paraffin, Phthalates, Sulfates, Synthetic Color or Fragrance, Talc, PABA and No Animal Ingredients or Testing.
